Troupe

5 Minute Quick Start Guide

🚀 Your First Story in 5 Minutes

New to Troupe? Here's the fastest way to go from a blank page to a story that's actually moving.

1. Make a Character

Head to Characters and create a new one. Don't overthink it. For your first story you only need:

  • A name
  • An age (required, more on that in tomorrow's post)
  • A few lines of personality: how they talk, what they want, what they're hiding

Pick a preset avatar and you're done. You can always come back and add more detail later.

2. Start a Story

Create a new story and add your character to the scene. If you want a bit of chaos, add a second character. Troupe is built for scenes with more than one voice.

3. Write a Strong Opening

Your first message sets the tone for everything after it. A good opening gives the AI three things:

  • Where you are: a rainy tavern, a starship bridge, a quiet bookshop
  • What's happening: something is already in motion
  • A hook: a question, a problem, or a stranger walking through the door

Weak: "We're in a tavern."

Strong: "Rain hammers the tavern windows. The fire is low, the barkeep is nervous, and the stranger in the corner hasn't touched his drink in an hour."

4. Steer, Don't Just Follow

You're the author. If the AI takes the story somewhere you don't like, you don't have to go along with it. Edit, step back to an earlier message, or nudge it in the direction you want.

5. Keep Going

That's it. The best way to learn Troupe is to write. Your first story doesn't need to be a masterpiece. It just needs to exist.

Happy writing!
